What I Wish I Knew Sooner About Losing Weight

Losing weight is a battle that most people will face at one point or another in their lives. And there are many ways to go about doing so. There are many things that most people wish they had known about losing weight sooner. Some of these things make losing weight a bit easier, such as:

You Have To Eat

It may go against what everyone has always been told, but you have to eat to lose weight in a healthy way. Far too often do people stall their progress by eating too little for too long. Your body needs food to fuel processes within it, including weight loss. Eating too little may cause you to stall, and may also cause other health issues.

Exercise Isn’t Everything

You cannot unrun your fork. To lose weight, you’ll have to reduce the amount you are eating. Exercising more is a great way to allow extra calories in your diet, as well as the health benefits that exercise provides. However, if you’re still eating far too much for your height and weight, you’ll continue to gain, no matter how much you try to exercise.

Progress Isn’t Linear

Weight loss shouldn’t be viewed as a walk from A to B but more like a hike up a slippery slope. Weight loss is not linear. By going up a few pounds one day, doesn’t mean your overall trajectory is off. Tracking your weight daily is a great way to get a glimpse of true progress, as is taking measurements.

Consistency is Key

One bad day will not completely ruin your figure, and in fact, they’re encouraged. The key to weight loss is consistency, even with ups and downs. If one consistently eats at a caloric deficit and remains somewhat active, they will lose weight. It’s a rather simple science for most, but the main factor is consistency.

There are many things one should know about weight loss. But perhaps the most important is to be forgiving. Go easy on yourself and never stop yourself from being proud. People don’t get fat overnight and they don’t get skinny overnight. Go easy on yourself, you’ve got this.

Finally, stop comparing yourself to others. Realize this is your journey. Your body is unique and you won't see the same results as everyone else, so don't expect to. 😀
