Millions of people can’t start their day without a cup of coffee. However, not everyone likes to take their coffee black. Cream, sugar, and a variety of flavorings have turned what can be a weight loss aid into one filled with empty calories. What many people might not know is that they can keep drinking their coffee and shed unwanted pounds just by drinking it black.
According to The USDA, one cup of black coffee has only two calories. Espresso has only one calorie per serving. Decaffeinated coffee has zero calories, though most people prefer or need the energy boost they get from a cup of regular “joe”. Adding in creamers and flavorings can take the calorie count up to 700, making the cup of coffee a hindrance to any weight loss goals.
There is an acid in black coffee, chlorogenic acid, that has shown to increase weight loss. Drinking a cup of black coffee before mealtimes can reduce glucose production. This limits the number of fat cells produced by your body which means fewer calories are being absorbed.
Excess Water Weight
It’s not uncommon for the body to retain water. You feel bloated, tired, and generally uncomfortable. Black coffee is a natural diuretic. It increases urination resulting in temporary weight loss. Some extra pounds can be shed, without any side-effects, but once again the weight loss is temporary.
